JESUS RAISES WIDOW’S SON Luke 7:11-17
And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. (v15)
Widowhood is not a desirable state but whenever the undesirable happens, people learn to cope with life and move on. Having lost her husband, the poor widow moved on with life, taking care of her only son. She must have invested so much in her son, who was the symbol of her hope. So, when death came calling again, and took her only son, it brought to her an emptiness and a dejection that may not be explained in words. Jesus understood the widow’s grief, and out of compassion restored order to her life. Many times, we speak words of comfort to those who are bereaved, just for want of something to say to them. But when Jesus told her, “Weep not,” it was a statement backed up with power and a willingness to change her situation. Jesus came and touched the coffin; called the dead man to arise, to the amazement of the pallbearers. Immediately, “the dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother” (v15)
The power of Jesus the great Prophet is still potent right now, and He is compassionate and willing to visit those situations that have brought chaos into your life. He can restore order into the disorder that has made you an object of people’s pity. He can bring to life your deadness and give you back your life.
PRAYER LINE: Lord, help me to be an extension of Your compassion to widows.
