“And we know that all things work together for good…”(v28)
Depression often leads to hopelessness. When you are depressed, you feel disinclined to do anything about it (usually because you are not really sure what to do) yet, you must take action.
(1) Believe that God is greater than your problems. Whatever circumstances have you down, it is not the end of the world. Look up – God can help you.
(2) Turn all your problems over to Him in prayer. Do not just say, words – communicate with God (take time with Him) Pray specifically, listing each area of concern. Don’t just pray that God will take your problems away, but pray that He will give you an understanding of each problem one step at a time. Follow this daily with a plan of action and a prayer for the courage to take just one step forward in faith against each problem each day.
(3) Recognize that depression feeds on self –pity, which must be confessed and forsaken as sin. Do not just patch things up on the surface. Deal with your deeper problem of a poor self-image. Squarely face your self-centered attitude and confess it as sin. The opposite of depression is joy. Scripture reminds us “The joy of the LORD is your strength” (Neh8:10) when joy is missing your strength is gone! (Ed Hindson)
PRAYER LINE: Father, I am so grateful that You have provided me an Advocate (Jesus) I will turn all my cares unto him. Praise Your holy name.
