GOD CREATED US TO DO GOOD WORKS                                     Matthew 5:14-16

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)

Irish philosopher and rhetorician Edmund Burke once said, “Evil triumphs only because good people do nothing.” That’s right. Doing nothing is easy but also dangerous. Where there is no resistance to evil, it spreads quickly.

We all sometimes complain about things that do not go as we want. But the whining does nothing except discourage us even more. It does not change anything because it has no positive power.

Imagine the chaos that would prevail if God only complained about what had gone wrong since he created the world. But our Father in heaven does not complain. He is kind and creates justice. The evil is powerful, but the good is even more powerful.

We must stop and realize that God has chosen to work on this earth through his children – you and me. His light shines in us. We cannot afford to do anything. We must make our light shine by doing good in his name, no matter what happens.

God Created us to Do Good Works

PRAYER LINE: Lord, it is so easy to sit back and do nothing. But it’s much better to keep your light on. I know that you created us to do good works. So please help me resist evil and do good on your behalf at every opportunity. I promise never to hesitate and work constantly. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Tom Lutz
