EVERY REASON TO PRAISE                                                  Psalm 22:1-11; 19-28

Yet thou art holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.” (v3)

Our reading for today (Psalm 22:1-11) Reminds us that the Almighty delights to dwell in the midst of His people’s praise. On the basis of this verse I can promise you that the more you will feel the Lord’s presence in your life. This has been true for me throughout all the days of my Christian life-and for countless other Christians that I have corresponded with also. Some might object to the phrase “cultivate a praising heart” on the grounds that they believe praise should always be a spontaneous and reactive, not something that is summoned from within the soul. Therefore it might be helpful if we were to begin by differentiating between the terms praise and thanksgiving. Although thanksgiving is a close relative of praise, the two are quite distinct. We thank God for what He does and we praise Him for who He is. The psalmist in (Psalm 104 says: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” Clearly, when we come before God we are expected to bring both thanks and praise. I know some may grumble. I can’t think of anything for which to give thanks; but to those who feel this way I would gently suggest that they think again.” There is always a reason to be thankful because we have been redeemed through the innocent suffering of Jesus our Lord. And there is always a reason to give praise because God never changes. So think and give thanks, ponder and give praise.

PRAYER LINE: My Father and my God, give me the insight I need to see that because of who You are. May my lips and my life combine today to praise and glorify Your Name. amen (EDWJ)
