Malachi 1:14

“But cursed be the deceiver who has in his flock a male, And takes a vow, But sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished-For I am a great King,” Says the LORD of hosts, “And My name is to be feared among the nations. (v14)

“I am a great king… and my name is to be feared among the nations; “says God in Malachi 1:14. How great? In more ways than can be named. But to my thinking, one of the greatest of God’s attributes is his absolute contentment – 1 Timothy 6:15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,” calls him the “blessed” God or translated another way, the “blissful” God. God’s contentment, however, is not that of the spoiled rich kid with a bedroom floor – to- ceiling TV Screen and an indoor pool. His happiness isn’t that of the easy chair, the absence of chores and endless snakes between meals. His delight is in his own goodness and wisdom, in his own beautiful character and in the complexity and wonder of all he has made. His is not a complacent, lazy joy – his is the rugged joy of the warrior returned home; the admiral sailing into port, flying colours of victory, the bone-tired, soon – faced (hand-scarred) but grinning hero, carrying the child to safety from the burring building – Joni Eareckson Tada – “I am amazed at the power that comes to us through suffering. We are nothing without the cross. Of course I tremble and agonize while it lasts, and all my words about the beneficial effects of suffering vanish under the torture, but when it is all over I look back over on the experience with deep appreciation and am ashamed that I bore it with so much bitterness. I am learning a great deal from my own foolishness (The Archbishop of Canterbury to the court of king Louis XIV)

PRAYER LINE: Father Lord, thank You for Your absolute contentment. Make me a reflection of Your contentment, in Jesus’ Name.
