“Do not overwork to be rich. Because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven” (Prov 23:4-5)

WEALTH does not guarantee security or happiness in life

Frank A. Clerk, observed, “Modern man is practically trying to earn enough to buy things he’s too busy to enjoy! Most Christian families no matter how committed to spiritual priorities, have at times felt as though they have been pulled into a whirlpool of financial interdependency as they continually try to make enough money to afford the “necessities” and “luxuries” they have acquired for themselves. We are indoctrinated in our culture to believe that the key to happiness and security is a successful career. The Bible places a high premium on character traits like diligence, perseverance, and sincere effort. But Proverbs is just as clear that these traits should be an expression of our desire to please God, not to acquire wealth in order to guarantee our future- (Prov 23:4-5. This does not mean we should not work for pay, or that we should not seek to advance our career. Note: Those who place all their confidence in their financial reserves may be in for a huge disappointment. (Kenneth M. Durham)

PRAYER LINE: -Think carefully about the prayer of Agur found in Proverbs 30:8-9 Give me neither poverty nor riches – feed me with the food you prescribe for me lest I be full and deny You, or lest I be poor and steal. And profane the name of my God. (Also Read Prov 3:9-10)

Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, will also cry himself and not be heard (Prov 21:13)
