THE EXALTATION OF SELF                                          Luke 15:1-7

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?  (v4)

Within  a state – run institution for the physically and mentally impaired lived a little girl by the name of Annie. Even though Annie had the ability to speak, she rarely said a word. She was subject to violent bursts of wrath, lasting out with anger at anyone who attempted to reach out to her. After exhausting the resources available to them in that day the institution finally labeled Annie “incurable.” In order to keep Annie safe from herself, she was housed in a private room located in the basement of this institution. One worker, though, chose not to accept the sentence handed down to Annie. The young lady decided to take her lunch breaks  in the basement where she read and talk to Annie on a daily basis. After some time, Annie began to show signs  of improvement. Eventually, this young lady convinced the officials of the institution to give Annie another chance and move her back upstairs. Ultimately, little Annie experienced total healing. When the time came for her to leave the institution, Annie decided to commit her life to helping others who had been labelled “impossible” I have to say that I am impressed by this nameless “Samaritan” who so selflessly reached out to Annie. I must also admit that there was a time in my life that I would have been willing to do the same only if it would have resulted in the recognition of others. (MIKE FEHLAUeR)
