GOD SENDS His LOVE (1)                                  Romans 5:6-11

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  (v8)

I went for a long time, years really, where I couldn’t perceive God’s love for me. If you have ever wondered, as I have, if God loves you, you know that His love can seem distant, and impersonal. We know that somewhere, “out there” God loves us, but here and now we struggle to feel God’s love for us. We tend to think of God loving “the world” as in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal  life (NASB) By extension, we acknowledge that we are included in that set, though it seems inpersonal. We know that Christ died for us, but He died for everyone else too. I think many people find it easier to gain a mental awareness of God’s love than to experience it in their heart.

The cross is where God demonstrated His unfailing love for us. God’s love involve withholding from us the punishment that we deserve and extending to us the good that we do not deserve. There is a price to be paid, and He was willing to pay the price personally, to rescue us. God’s Son took on human form and sacrificed His life to save ours. That is the message of the cross. “But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners’ (Romans 5:18NLT) That’s unfailing love. Salvation is a gift to be used here and now, each and every day. Salvation isn’t a free ticket to heaven, it’s an invitation to a relationship that produces abundant life. (ODB)
