When a violent wind ripped through the town of Ajase-Ipo Kwara State (of Nigeria), in June 1980, the residents, who were previously living their normal lives, suddenly became homeless, left only with the clothes on their backs and a feeling of despair. No one prays for crisis but they come anyway in form of health challenges, pressing family needs, unruly and disobedient children, job loss, natural disasters and the like. The psalmist calls such period times of distress. All of us face it at one time or another, when we are stretched beyond limits and our resources stretched , beyond capacity. But what do you do in times of crisis? The psalmist points us to a reliable source of help in our times of crisis. He states unequivocally that your call in days of distress should be to the Lord (v1a) David knew the power in the name of the God of Jacob that had protected him in his days of crisis. He has received help from the sanctuary of God in Zion, and so he could confidently pray for his people to experience such.

As a warrior, David had fought with chariots and horses, but he knew that victory does not come from those weapons, but from the Lord (v7) Today’s Christians have an unmatchable power in the name of Jesus to deliver them in times of crisis. We have an unwavering protection in the name of the Lord to run to in our days of distress. The psalmist assuredly says” “the Lord saves… the saving power of his right hand (v6)
