ELI SENSES GOD’S CALL TO SAMUEL                         1 Samuel 3:1-9

Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, and the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. (v7)

The Scriptural text for today’s devotion is fully of lessons on spiritual mentoring. Samuel was under the tutelage of Eli and looked up to him for moral and spiritual development. Despite Eli’s weakness, Samuel still looked up to him for guidance and ministered before the Lord under him. (v1) When God called Samuel, he thought it was Eli. “Samuel did not yet know the Lord; the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.” (v7) Eli knew the right time had come for him to reveal the Lord to Samuel as he sensed God’s call to the boy. Eli, therefore, wasted no time in discharging this divine responsibility.

Eli’s action of leading Samuel aright is worthy of commendation and emulation. It is a responsibility that physical and spiritual parents must carry out to their children. It is God that put children under the tutelage of Christian adults. A critical area that needs prayer and should not be toiled with is how and when to guide the youths in the direction of God’s call and His will for their lives. When youths are put on a very solid spiritual foundation through such guidance, they will live a better and committed life for the Lord. The greatest legacy you leave to your child is intimacy with Jesus. Are you paying enough attention to your children’s spiritual life and monitoring their spiritual growth?

PRAYER LINE: Lord, help me to lead the children You have put under my care in line with Your will.
