IN THE MIND OF JESUS                                                        Psalm 139

My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. {substance: or, strength, or, body} (v15)

To be known is one of the most wonderful experiences of life, and in this psalm, we can enter into David’s amazement, awe and incomprehension bordering on disbelief as he seeks to fully apprehend the true depth and bandwidth of God’s thoughts towards us: more numerous than the grains of sand! God knows our comings and goings, our beginning and our end. He is familiar with us. God is thinking about you all the time. The thought of God’s infinite knowledge and loving care of us, from the moment of conception, is brought out powerfully in The Message’s paraphrase of verse 15. You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body: “You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watch me grow from conception to birth.” To live in the truth of this revelation of being known and loved by God, even from before the creation of the world (v16 and Ephesians 1:4), changes everything. I shall never forget, as a young man, the words I wrote in my Bible to predict what my life would be. When my pastor saw what I had written, he added the words: “the mind of God.” The impact of those few additional words has not left me to this day. In a sense, my life began not in my mother’s womb but in eternity. My natural identity began in the womb, but my eternal identity began in the mind of God.

PRAYER LINE: God my Father, I am so thankful that I was in Your thoughts before I was formed in the womb and that one day I will enjoy Your presence and be completely conformed to the image of Your Son forever. Amen. (EDWJ)
