THE PROBLEM OF PHYSICAL PAIN                            Genesis 3:1-19

but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.  (vv3-4)

(9 Physical Pain. All of us will have experienced physical pain at some stage of our lives; some have to live with it on a permanent basis. Today’s passage shows that as a result of Adam and Eve’s sin, God warned that pain would enter their lives. There is no crystal – clear answer as to why Eve would fall, built into them the warning system of pain. This meant that they would be alerted when things went wrong with their bodies and because of sin, they started to deteriorate. If there had been no pain, the human race might not have survived. It has been argued that a loving God should have given us a switch that we could use to turn off pain, but common sense tells us that had He done so, most people would turn off the switch permanently.  Ultimately, we have to leave this matter with God, and recognize that though we are big enough to understand the answers. We may not like it, but it is the answer that Christians most settle for. In deed, many of the questions that arise in our hearts in this life will have to wait for answers in eternity.

PRAYER LINE: Father God, once again I see that everything comes down to trust. Thank You for reminding me that though I’m big enough to ask questions, I may not be big enough to understand the answers. I believe – please help my unbelief. Amen (EDWJ)
