LOVE, THE BASIS FOR RELATIONSHIP Psalm 63:1-11
Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. (vv3-5)
When we love someone, it is easy to share what we have and who we are. The same principle holds true with our heavenly Father.
Scripture often referred to David as a man after God’s own heart. Although he was not perfect, he loved God and fellowshipped with Him. And in Psalm 51:16-17 (KJV), we find that David had discovered the secret to a relationship with God.
“For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
He had discovered the two sacrifices that are always acceptable: (1) a broken spirit and (2) a broken and contrite heart.
God doesn’t want fleshly, forced obedience. Rather, He is looking for loving obedience. Do I see Him as a rigid mean boss, ready to whip me for every mistake I make? No. He is not like that. He is a tenderhearted heavenly Father full of mercy and grace. David said, “Your lovingkindness is better than life.” (Ps 63:3a) David had discovered the basis for true riches, and as a result of his relationship with God, he was abundantly blessed. Ps 63:1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. (Benny Hinn)
PRAYER LINE: Father, as I look at my own heart, I know I have resisted You and have been resistant to come to You. Thank You for Your love. Help me to share with others who You are.
