“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies it remains alone…” (v24)

Give Totally, Dying to Self. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German Christian slain by the Nazis, said, “ when Jesus bids us come to Him, He bids us come and die.” Surrender is important on the road to blessing. Yet ultimately, surrender means that we must die to ourselves. A man who surrenders all and dies to himself owns absolutely nothing. He is dead. He says, “God, my life is Yours, my home is Yours, my children are Yours, I’m holding nothing back I give it all willing to You, Lord.” And at the moment the ownership has changed, and a new master is in charge.

The moment this death takes place, giving begins. People who cannot give haven’t died yet. Consider this statement carefully: only the dead give, the livings don’t. Just what is the death? How do I die that I might live? How do I surrender that I might be blessed? What is true death to self? Jesus gave us the answers to these questions. Road Jn. 12:20-26.

One of the great truths of the kingdom of God is this: death must occur before renewed life is possible. In the natural a seed must give its life and plunge into the dark death of the soil before the increase can sprout, grow, and be harvested. And just as the increase is harvested in the natural, so the same principles apply in the area of giving. (Benny Hinn)
