“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation” (2Cor 5:18)

Man became an enemy to God when Adam and Eve listened to the serpent and partook of the fruit of the tree that God commanded they should not eat (Gen 2:7) God said “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shall not eat of it, for in the day that thou eateth thereof, thou shall surely die”

Satan deceived Eve and Adam into disobeying God’s command concerning the tree by alluding that if the fruit of the tree was eaten the eyes of Adam and Eve would be opened and they would have knowledge of good and evil and be like gods. True Adam and Eve did not die physically on eating the forbidden fruit. However, they did die spiritually, since the death that God spoke of was spiritual, meaning separation from relationship with God. Therefore, sin or disobedience could lead to separation from the presence of God. God is unable to behold sin in view of his inherent holiness. God’s spirit cannot relate with the spirit of one who is in sin. Therefore, those who are in sin are dead spiritually even though they are walking about. No wonder the sons of men continue to sin, even after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and throughout the period of the Old Testament. (Tunde Cole Onitiri)
